Entrepreneurs and small business owners can be hard to buy for. We move fast, we take risks, and let’s be honest, we drink a lot of coffee and yerba mate. And often, we buy what we need. But even though the holidays draw ever near, there’s still time to surprise, delight, and touch the heart of any entrepreneur in your life. This is our official last minute holiday gift guide for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide for
Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners
Note that several of the items in our holiday gift guide for entrepreneurs and small business owners may be sent digitally or via speedy shipping options.
Since I’m constantly checking and writing emails, taking notes, and working on my smartphone, it constantly runs out of juice. Like most entrepreneurs, I hate being weighed down by tech, but a battery backup and/or charger is pretty much necessary on a daily basis. The Seyvr charger, though, is the smallest battery ever, and it doesn’t just fit into a wallet…it is the wallet! Now you don’t have to remember a charger or bring a charger with you, because it’ll always be with you. Genius, right? (limited items available through Amazon; also available through The Grommet for $74.95)
I love planning my year! But I also create plans within the plans – monthly goals within annual goals – and I like to be able to focus specifically on right now without losing sight of the future. My personal favorite is the new Spark Planner, but it’s sold out. So you’ll have to take a peek at their Notebook or go for the also-popular Passion Planner. Either will do quite nicely. (Spark – $25/$35; Passion – $24.99/$29.99)
Every entrepreneur loves to read, and that’s why I highly recommend Amazon gift cards. That way, your favorite business owner will be able to pick out the best tomes on marketing, scaling, and ROI. Best part about this gift is that you can send it digitally, so it will definitely arrive on time.
Having said that…why not just get them the best little book on starting and growing a small business that exists? Business in Blue Jeans is our favorite, for obvious reasons, but it’s also a solid read packed full of specific advice on growing a business. Plus, it’s a lovely book. And if you’re cool with gifting e-books and need a super-last-minute item, the Kindle version occasionally goes on sale for $4.99!
I thought I was being a bit silly when I bought smartphone-friendly gloves for my husband and me. But now that I have them, I don’t ever want to be without them. Smartphone-friendly gloves let you access your smartphone without having to take your gloves off. I live in the Midwest. These gloves are heaven in the wintertime. (Or, for $20, buy a paint-on solution that makes any gloves into smartphone-friendly gloves).
Every entrepreneur and small business owner has that one night when we just can’t even think about cooking. We’re head-down, focused completely on tasks that must be done and the idea of making a meal…well, we’re much more likely to head to the nearest fast food place or order a pizza. To gift your favorite entrepreneur with a night off from worrying about food, present him or her with DoorDash credits. DoorDash will deliver food from your favorite local restaurants in under an hour, and it’ll still be hot. I ordered recently from Benihana and was the hero of the day. Use our link and take $5 off your order right now!
Many entrepreneurs like me love mind maps and mapping out web sites and customer flow. I’ve used the same tool for over 15 years, and I still find people who haven’t tried it yet. Inspiration was designed for the education market, but I’ve always used it for business, and now they’re getting the message that entrepreneurs and small business owners use it completely differently from educators. While InspirationMaps is an app that’s available for free (from GooglePlay and iTunes), I love the desktop version, Inspiration. And at just $28, it’s a steal.
Whether it’s a vanity number or not, an 800 number is a wonderful tool for any business. Even though most people aren’t charged for long distance anymore, 800 numbers generate credibility for businesses and make consumers feel confidence in the company they’re calling. For just $12/month and no activation fee, you can secure an 800 number from Grasshopper for your favorite small business owner.
A few years ago, I bought the ScanSnap to reduce home and office papers. I scanned for days and when I was done, my client files went from heavy folders to weightless digital files in the cloud, and most of our records became PDFs. I prefer the ScanSnap to purpose-specific products like NeatReceipts, because I’m frankly scanning WAY more than just receipts. And the ScanSnap gives me a lot more flexibility than any other tool I found. $330.95
In the wintertime, we just wish for sunlight. But even in the summertime, sometimes small business owners and entrepreneurs don’t get out nearly enough. And not only does sunlight help you synthesize Vitamin D, but it also keeps us happy. That’s why I have a HappyLight mounted on the wall of my office, right next to my desk. The HappyLight simulates the rays of the sun without its damaging effects and can help alleviate seasonal affective disorder or just the winter blues. $99.
Okay, this one’s for my female entrepreneurs who are looking for a way to step up their style game. I’m a huge fan of subscription boxes. I love surprises, so even though I’m paying someone who doesn’t know me to surprise me, I still love it, because I choose the subscription boxes that I know I’ll love. The Rachel Zoe Box of Style never disappoints. Everything I’ve ever gotten in a box is of the highest caliber, and lots of fun, and it’s also stuff I’d never buy (or think to buy) for myself. Plus, while I paid under $95 per box, they’re regularly worth well over $200-250 each time.
Every entrepreneur needs a dry erase board. It should be big and it should have solid reviews that say, “It actually does wipe off.” So many poor quality boards flood the marketplace. But we think we’ve found one that works well at a reasonable price. $35.
I get many of my best ideas when I can’t write them down – in the shower, in the car, when I’m folding laundry. Most entrepreneurs and small business owners do. You can record ideas using the microphone on a smartphone when driving, and one can stop folding laundry to jot down a note. But finally there’s an answer to the shower: Aqua Notes. Now I can write down your best ideas (or a sweet note to my hubby) in the shower. $9.99.
I’m so in love with the idea of moving while I work, I can’t even tell you how much. As many people know, I’m an avid treadmill desk user and hate the idea of sedentary work. However, in early 2015, I injured my foot and was suddenly sedentary again. The FitDesk is an option that allows me to get back to a less sedentary lifestyle but not put too much pressure on my still-healing foot. And while my husband and I built my treadmill desk, when you factor in the cost of the treadmill, the FitDesk is way less expensive than any treadmill desk. Still, if the $300 price tag scares you, you can do just as well with the Stamina Wirk Cycling Workstation, which is just $200 and is my personal favorite.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners frequently act out of necessity. And I’ll admit it: when I’m sitting down, I typically work with my laptop actually on my lap. I do it all the time, and I frequently wonder just what kind of weird damage I’m doing to myself by working this way, not to mention sometimes laptops get a little warm. Enter the iSkelter, a bamboo lap desk that keeps your laptop off your lap and keeps everything nice and cool. $39.95-$99
Bonus Item: Free Time
Free time. It’s the one thing that’s at a premium for entrepreneurs and small business owners. We never have enough of it. If you can find a way to free up some time for us, maybe by hiring a virtual assistant for a few hours to make phone calls for us, or by asking a friend who’s an amazing salesperson to generate a few sales, then we’ll gladly spend that time with you!
So there you have it, the official Business in Blue Jeans last minute holiday gift guide for entrepreneurs and small business owners!
